In 1969, George Martin, the producer of the famous English rock band “The Beatles”, split ways with EMI and founded his own recording studio. This was the birth of the, now famous, AIR studios. AIR (Associated Independent Recording) studios now has three branches in various parts of the globe and is one of the most successful sound recording studios in the world. It had studios in London and the Caribbean. The Caribbean studio, on the island of Monsterrat, was constructed in the mid 1970s.
This studio attracted famous artists from around the world. However, it was forced to close down after the deadly Hurricane Hugo destroyed the beautiful island in 1989. The AIR studios were previously situated on Oxford Street, London. However, they were later on moved to Lyndhurst Hall in the quiet suburb of Hampstead. Sir George Martin was heavily involved in the designing and construction of the new studio. Hence, he inaugurated AIR Lyndhurst in late 1992 with a splendid performance of “Under Milk Wood” in the royal presence of His Highness, The Prince of Wales. The AIR studios have attracted a large number of famous artists and have also recorded some of the most famous movie scores.
Sir Elton John had recorded three of his albums in the AIR studios in the 1980s. Dire Straits recorded their superhit album “Brothers in Arms” at AIR studios.
