Sam Phillips, who is regarded as one of the pioneers of rock music, founded the Sun Studio on the 3rd of January, 1950 at 706 Union Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee. Originally called the Memphis Recording Service, it shared the building with the Sun Records label. In 1951, the Memphis Recording Service obtained the title of “The Birth Place of Rock And Roll” when the song “Rocket 88”, a song with an extremely heavy backbeat and an authentic and unique sound, was recorded by Ike Turner and Jackie Brenston.
The Muscle Shoals Sound Studio was established in 1969, in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The famous musical group of Barry Beckett, Jimmy Johnson, David Hood and Roger Hawkins separated from FAME studios in order to create a studio of their own. The Muscle Shoals Sound Studio was formed as a result of this. The studio was initially known as The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. It was also the only rhythm section in its time to have a studio of its own.
Sunset Sound Sound Factory is the famous recording studio located in Hollywood, California on 6650 Sunset Boulevard.
The Sunset Sound Recorders’ complex was made or rather converted from a old set of buildings, both commercial and residential, by the famous Walt Disney’s Director of Recording, Tutti Camarata, in 1962. Camarata started the studio originally with the help of the advice given to him by Walt Disney.
In 1969, George Martin, the producer of the famous English rock band “The Beatles”, split ways with EMI and founded his own recording studio. This was the birth of the, now famous, AIR studios. AIR (Associated Independent Recording) studios now has three branches in various parts of the globe and is one of the most successful sound recording studios in the world. It had studios in London and the Caribbean. The Caribbean studio, on the island of Monsterrat, was constructed in the mid 1970s.
