What Are Sound Effects?

Introduction and meaning:

Sound effects are artificially created sounds. They could be any sort of sound from the background music of a film to the immensely imaginative but seemingly impossible sounds that one hears in a fight scene of a film. Sound effects are generally used in movies to make a statement that supports the situation that is being shown in the movie at that time.

Uses:

Sound effects are generally used to underline all kinds of content in films. They are also used in TV programs, animated films, live performances, music and video games. In TV shows and films, sound effects are used to make a particular point without actually using music or dialogue.
In terms of films and TV shows, music, sound effects and dialogue are considered three different aspects. Music recordings and dialogues are never called sound effects, despite the fact that the processes they are put through, like flanging effects and reverberation, are often known as sound effects.

Different kind of sound effects used in films:

Sound effects are vastly used in films. There are different kinds of sound effects. They are listed below.

Hard sound effects: They are the most commonly used sound effects. The sounds of vehicles driving by, heavy doors slamming and gun fire are some examples.

Background sound effects: They are the kind of sound effects that don’t completely synchronize with a picture. They highlight the background for the audience. Forest sound, the sound of fluorescent lights being switched on, sound coming out of the interiors of cars, and people talking in the backdrop are some examples.

Foley sound effects: They are the sounds that completely synchronize with a picture. To record appropriately, they require the assistance of a Foley artist. The sound of footsteps, the sound made as a result of moving hand props like forks and knives and the sound of cloth being dragged over the floor are some examples.

Design sound effects: They are the sounds that can’t be heard, generally, in nature. In other words, they can’t be recorded in natural surrounding. The sounds produced to denote the use of extravagant technology and the sounds that may indicate an emotional mood are some common examples.
