DTS Connect System - Multi-Channel Audio

DTS Connect comprises two-part system used only on the computer platform for the conversion of PC audio to the DTS format. This is transported via single S/PDIF cable. DTS Interactive and DTS Neo:PC are the two components of the DTS Connect system. The technology offers simple installation of multi-channel audio for the PC and is available on select motherboards and peripherals.

The system is found on several CMedia soundcards and onboard audio with Realtek ALC883DTS/ALC889A/ALC888DD-GR and SoundMAX AD1988 chips. It is also available on cards based on the X-Fi chipset that include the likes of SoundBlaster Titanium series and Auzentech’s X-Fi Forte, X-Fi Home Theater HD, X-Fi Prelude and X-Fi Bravura cards.

Personal computers are increasingly being used as home media centers and DTS Connect helps in enhancing the entertainment experience with the use of the Audio/Video receiver of the home theater system. The two technologies of DTS Connect include:

1. DTS Interactive – It is a real-time DTS stream encoder that converts a multichannel audio into a 1.5 Mbps DTS stream on the PC. The usage of the original DTS codec for the transmission of audio limits its support to 5.1-channel at 48 kHz, 24 bit. It doesn’t support more than 5.1 channels, a higher sampling frequency or data rate due to the lack of support for DTS variants like DTS 96/24. Many of the PlayStation 2 titles feature the encoder.

2. DTS Neo:PC – It is based on the DTS Neo:6 matrix surround technology and transforms stereo content into a stimulated 7.1-channel surround sound experience. The output is sent via S/PDIF cable port.
