DTS Neo:6 is a surround sound decoding format very similar in functionality to the Dolby Prologic II and IIx. It takes stereo content and converts the sound into 5.1 or 6.1 channel formats. The format extracts a 6.1 channel surround field from the analogue two-channel material with receivers and preamps that have DTS Neo:6 decoders. The analogue two-channel materials include stereo CD, vinyl record, stereo movie soundtrack or TV broadcast.
Digital Theater Sound- Extended Surround
DTS-ES stands for Digital Theater Sound- Extended Surround, and includes two variants, DTS-ES Matrix and DTS-ES Discrete 6.1. This depends on the original mastering and storage of the sound. With a discretely recorded (nonmatrixed) center-surround channel, DTS-ES Discrete provides 6.1 discrete channels while the two rear-center speakers play in mono, in home theater systems with a 7.1 configuration.
DTS-HD High Resolution Audio
DTS-HD High Resolution Audio is one of the two high-definition DTS audio formats for Blu-ray media. DTS-HD High Resolution Audio and DTS-HD Master Audio are the extensions to the original DTS audio format. The format delivers up to 7.1 channels of sound at a sampling frequency of 96 kHz and 24-bit depth resolution.
With constant bit rates up to 6.0 Mbit/s, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio is selected as an optional surround sound format for Blu-ray Disc and for constant bit rates up to 3.0 Mbit/s; it is selected for HD DVD.
DTS-HD Master Audio
DTS-HD Master Audio, created by Digital Theater System, is a lossless audio codec. Formerly known as DTS++, it is an extension of DTS that supports an unlimited number of surround sound channels. When played back on devices not supporting the Master Audio or High Resolution extension, it is degraded to a lossy “core” track.
