Lossless Audio Codec True Audio

TTA (True Audio) is a lossless audio codec that is based on adaptive prognostic filters. It is a free and real-time audio codec and uses the generic filename extension .tta for its audio files. Audio compression is executed to reduce the transmission bandwidth requirement of digital audio streams and also the storage size of audio files. Lossless compression formats provide a compression ratio of about 2:1 and are of different types that include Free Lossless Audio Codec, WavPack, Monkey’s Audio and Apple Lossless.

Lossless compression yields digital data, expandable to an exact duplicate of the original audio stream and the formats require more processing time when compared to uncompressed formats but are more efficient in space usage. TTA yields compression ratios up to 30-70% of the original but that depends on the type of music file being compressed.

The audio codec performs compression on multichannel 8, 16 and 24 bit data of uncompressed wav input files. TTA format uses a Real-time encoding and decoding algorithm and supports ID3 v1 and ID3 v2 information tags. The TTA project provides plugins for the most popular media players, TTA DirectShow filters, Tau Producer - GUI based compressor for Windows and set of the C/C++ TTA development libraries.
